In early December, an unexpected email found its way to the county offices.
Alan Deutsch, of Virginia, sent a short message stating he had a 2-page handwritten letter dated 1861 and signed by Lewis Ledyard Weld, Secretary Colorado Territory. He was kind enough to share that letter in celebration of Weld County’s 150th Anniversary. Alan inherited the letter from his father, Ben M. Deutsch, who inherited the letter from his father who owned a bookstore in Washington DC in the 1920s. The letter was found in one of the old books.
